Leander Paes rues lost momentum for Davis Cup doubles loss

New Delhi, Sept. 19 (ANI): Indian tennis ace Leander Paes has admitted that he and his doubles partner Rohan Bopanna failed to keep up the momentum during their crucial Davis Cup World Group play-off tie against the Czech Republic on Saturday.

The Indian duo suffered a rare 5-7, 2-6, 2-6 defeat against the Czech pair of Radek Stepanek and Adam Pavlasek in a contest that lasted two hours and 10 minutes, leaving India trail 1-2 in the five-match contest.

“Momentum is such an important thing in doubles. If we had broken them in the first set and had gone up 3-love we would have been sitting here with a different story,” Paes said during the post-match conference.

Bopanna was poor at the net as compared to youngster Pavlasek, who turned out to be the best among the four with his attacking display.

Earlier on Friday, India had leveled against the world’s top team, when Somdev Devvarman claimed a 7-6 (3), 6-4, 6-3 win over 40th ranked Vesely in the second rubber contest at the R.K Khanna Stadium.

Devvarman and Yuki Bhambri will now play the next two reverse singles on Sunday. (ANI)
