Melbourne, Mar 14 (ANI): Rafael Nadal has threatened to take legal action against former French sports minister Roselyne Bachelot after she accused the Spanish tennis maestro of faking a knee injury four years ago to cover up a positive drug test.
Bachelot claimed that the 14-time Grand Slam champion’s six-month absence from the sport in 2012 was an attempt to cover up a failed drug test.
Responding to these allegations, a visibly angry Nadal said he had become tired of hearing such comments and that he is going sue her and ‘everyone who’s going to comment something similar in the future’, news.com.au reported.
He insisted that his career has reached the heights it has due to nothing but hard work and a love of tennis.
Nadal, who is currently playing at the Indian Wells Masters, has never failed a drug test in his many years on the ATP Tour.
The Spaniard has been facing doping rumours in the wake of Russian female tennis star Maria Sharapova’s revelation that she had tested positive for meldonium, the banned substance which she had been taking since 2006 for health issues, at this year’s Australian Open.
Meldonium was placed on the banned list by the World Anti-Doping Agency from this year. (ANI)
