‘M Cream’ will inspire youth to challenge societal norms: Director

Mumbai, June 25 (IANS) “M Cream” director Agneya Singh hopes the film — touted as “India’s first stoner movie” — urges the youth to challenge the norms of the society and to raise their voice against issues.

Talking about his movie, Singh told IANS: “Though we term the film as ‘India’s first stoner movie’, it’s not just about drugs. While the film does explore serious issues that intimately concern the young, it is a fun film that is certainly entertaining as well.

“I think it’s important for cinema to be entertaining but also to provide some substance that goes beyond that. I hope ‘M Cream’ is able to blend both together into a whole that will not only excite but also elevate.

“It really is a coming-of-age tale that exemplifies what it means to be a young person living in a turbulent country like India today. I am certain that the film will inspire the youth to challenge the norms of society and to find the courage to give expression to their own voice.”

The movie features actors Imaad Shah, Ira Dubey, Auritra Ghosh and Raaghav Chanana. Their characters set out on a road trip to the mountains of Himachal Pradesh in their quest for a magical form of the drug hashish known as M Cream.

Singh, who believes there has been “a resurgence of radicalism as far as the new generation goes” in the last five years, also said his film delivers a “strong, life-affirming message that calls upon the youth to stand up for what they believe in and to fight for a better world”.

“M Cream”, presented by PVR Pictures, releases in theatres on July 22.
