New Delhi, Sept 8 (ANI): Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit, who has been associated with UNICEF from a long time, has yet again stood up for a genuine cause of protecting the lives of children who are losing their battle of life before the age of 5 because of lack of immunization.
The 48-year-old actress, talking about the association said, “I am associated with UNICEF and through them with this noble project. I am a mother and realize that if I want my kids to be healthy then I will have to immunize them. It is really shocking to look at the statistics of kids dying before the age of 5. So, the immunization is really important.”
UNICEF and partners have envisaged the first of its kind Radio4child Awards to encourage radio journalist who are creating awareness around routine immunization.
India has one of the largest immunization programmes in the world and yet a lot of kids are deprived of it.
Bearing in mind the critical role of Radio as a medium in reaching out to people and in shaping their decision making process, UNICEF has been actively involved in organizing capacity building workshops with radio jockeys across India. (ANI)
