Madhya Pradesh CM’s China trip paid for by CPC

Bhopal, July 1 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s trip to China in June was initially dubbed as a visit to boost investment, but the government on Friday clarified that it was on the invitation of the Communist Party of China which also bore all the expenses.

The cabinet held its first meeting on Friday after the cabinet expansion on Thursday, where the Chief Minister narrated details of his China trip.

Party spokesperson Narottam Mishra told reporters that the Chief Minister’s trip to China was not to encourage investments in India, instead he visited China on the invitation of the Communist Party of China. The expenses were borne by the Communist Party and not the Madhya Pradesh government, he said.

Mishra also told reporters that the Chief Minister met the Communist Party of China Politburo members, and other senior Chinese officials.

According to Mishra, the Chinese government lauded the Madhya Pradesh government’s scheme of offering rice, wheat and salt at Re 1 per kg to the poor people.
