Maharashtra Govt. transfers Sheena Bora murder probe to CBI

Mumbai, Sept.18 (ANI): The Maharashtra Government on Friday decided to transfer the high-profile Sheena Bora murder case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

“This isn’t only a murder case. There are other intricate matters. Some economic issues have also surfaced,” Additional Chief Secretary (Home) of the Maharashtra government K P Bakshi said in a press conference.

“There are some reports that suggest current Commissioner of Police also is known to the Mukherjea’s and so to avoid any doubts in the minds of the public we are transferring the case. This also so as to avoid interference,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said that the decision was taken because of the credibility which the CBI has, adding that the decision might help in speedy progress of the case.

“There are many reasons for the transfer of the case to the CBI. It could be because of inter-state ramifications. In any case, it’s up to the state government to decide. The credibility of CBI is such that even Supreme Court transfers cases to it on a regular basis,” said BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli.

Indrani Mukherjea was arrested on August 24 for the murder of Sheena Bora, her daughter from an earlier relationship, in 2012. She has been accused of killing her over a financial dispute, with the help of her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver. (ANI)
