Mamata assures land will not be forcibly acquired in WB

West Bengal, Jan. 18 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday assured that her government would not forcibly acquire land for industry, as there is enough land in the land bank and industrial parks in the state for setting up of industries.

“We protested in Singur because they killed innocent farmers in the name of industry. But now, we have developed land bank. Land would not be forcibly acquired as we have one lakh acres of land in the bank and 5000 acres at industrial parks for setting up of industries,” Banerjee said.

“Agriculture and industry are siblings. We have to work taking both with us. We must give equal importance to both,” she added.

Earlier, at a meeting in Singur, former West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee issued an open appeal to the Congress to join hands with the Left Front to defeat Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the assembly elections due later this year.

“What is the Congress leadership thinking today? We are not alone. Come and join us. Every opposition party should come and join hands to dislodge this undemocratic government,” Bhattacharjee said. (ANI)
