The York Regional Police Special Victims Unit have linked a recent Newmarket sexual assault to four other similar incidents. Investigators are releasing new video surveillance video footage of the suspect; as well as previously released video, and are seeking public assistance to identify him.
On Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at approximately 7 p.m., a 59-year-old female, was walking through Upper Canada Mall. A man can be seen on surveillance video watching the woman and following her as she exits the mall. As she walked to her car that was parked in the south lot of the mall he followed her, hit her on her buttocks and ran south towards Davis Drive.
Investigators believe this incident is linked to four other similar sexual assaults in Newmarket due to the similarities in the location, the type of assault and the suspect description. The additional incidents occurred on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at approximately 5:50 p.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at approximately 7:30 a.m., on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at approximately 2:30 p.m.and Friday, September 25, 2015, at approximately 9:25 a.m. In each case, the suspect slapped the buttocks of the females.
Investigators are appealing for anyone that may have witnessed any of the incidents, or anyone who can identify the suspect to contact police. The suspect has been described as a white male, 18 ro 25 years of age, 5’5” to 5’7” in height, 125 to 130 lbs. and of thin build.
