London, Sept. 16(ANI): Manchester United footballer Luke Shaw has been ruled out from playing for several months after suffering a double fracture in his right leg during his side’s opening match of the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven.
Confirming the news, United manager Louis Van Gaal said that Shaw is in hospital and will get operated in Manchester, the Guardian reported.
He revealed that the 20-year-old will not play in the group phase, and hoped the latter could play again this season.
Meanwhile, Shaw wrote on Twitter, “Thank you everyone for your messages, words can’t describe how gutted I am, my road to recovery starts now, I will come back stronger.”
The injury occurred by a reckless tackle from PSV defender Hector Moreno in the 15th minute after the 20-year-old Shaw had burst into the PSV area.
Reacting to the incident, PSV coach, Phillip Cocu said that it was a very bad injury, but added that it was never our intention to injure an opponent.
Moreno, who appeared fortunate to escape a red card and the concession of a spot-kick, said that he felt bad about it and apologized Shaw for the accident.
Earlier, United suffered a shocking 1-2 defeat against PSV.
United will now lock horns with Wolfsburg on October 1.(ANI)
