Man Utd legend Robson backs Giggs as Van Gaal’s successor

Johannesburg, Mar.22 (ANI): Former Manchester United manager Bryan Robson believes that Ryan Giggs will be a perfect choice to replace Louis van Gaal as the next manager at Old Trafford, if the Dutchman is shown the door at the end of this season.

Van Gaal’s three-year contract with the club will expire in 2017, but United’s dip in form this season has prompted the club to search for a new manager.

In contrast, Mourinho has been heavily linked with United after being sacked by Chelsea in December. He led the Stamford Bridge club to Premier League glory in the 2014-15 season.

Admitting that Giggs was always used to be a prolific player for the club, Robson said that Van Gaal’s assistant loved playing football in United’s way and was well-equipped to take the post, Sport24 reported.

According to the 59-year-old, Van Gaal was given three-year contract so that the club could ensure that Giggs working under him was ready to step in as their next manager.

The United legend stressed that Giggs had the credentials to revive United as he was well aware about the club.

Reflecting on Van Gaal’s chances to remain in the club, the former England skipper insisted that the Dutchman’s minimum requirement would be to ensure United secure a top-four Premier League finish.

United are currently sixth in the league table and lagged just one point from fourth-placed Manchester City.

United will lock horns with Everton in their next league clash on April 3. (ANI)
