Lucknow, Oct. 31 (ANI): Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Saturday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government at the Centre wants to end reservation for Dalits and other lower sections of the society.
Addressing a press conference here, Mayawati slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government and said Dalits and people from other backward classes need to unite to stop BJP from coming to power at state and Centre or else they will gradually end quota system for them.
“BJP, after coming to power once again, and now led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is trying to take away the privileges given to Dalits and other backward classes. It is once again trying to withdraw reservation rights given to people of lower castes,” said Mayawati.
Mayawati further termed PM Modi as anti-Dalit and the government as being insensitive towards the lower caste people. She said that Minsiter of State for External Affairs EGnral VK Singh should have been sacked for his offensive comments.
“Had Narendra Modi’s government been a bit sensitive and serious, it would have taken action against General (retired) V.K. Singh and put him behind bars for making insensitive remarks over the murder of two Dalit children, the incident which took place in BJP governed state of Haryana,” added Mayawati.
Last month, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat, called for a review of the reservation system in the country.
A Dalit family of four was set ablaze by upper-caste Rajput men in Haryana’s Sunpedh village on October 20. While the two children, aged nine months and two-and-a-half years, were charred to death, their parents suffered burn injuries. (ANI)
