Johannesburg, Dec.16 (ANI): World number three golfer Rory McIlroy has been named as the European Tour Golfer of the Year for the third time in his last four seasons.
Considering the achievement as a `huge honour`, the 26-year-old said that he felt extremely proud to win the prestigious award for the third time, Sport24 reported.
Admitting that his injury was a major setback of the season, the Northern Irish professional said that it was quite satisfying to finish the season strongly with his second victory in Dubai.
McIlroy also became only the seventh player to be awarded European number one in consecutive campaigns.
McIlroy failed to defend both his British Open and PGA Championship crowns after missing three tournaments in the summer due to a freak ankle injury while playing football.
But he ended his modest season by winning his third DP World Tour Championship in Dubai in four years. (ANI)
