San Diego (California), July 10 (IANS) Mexico began their Gold Cup title defence with an easy 3-1 win over El Salvador at Qualcomm Stadium here.
Coach Luis Paez’s team opened the scoring on Sunday on a goal by Hedgardo Marin just eight minutes into the match, reports Efe.
El Salvador’s Nelson Bonilla made it 1-1 just two minutes later, giving the Central American team some short-lived hope.

Orbelin Pineda added a goal in the 55th minute to make it 3-1 and seal the win for Mexico.
Mexico’s next opponent in Group C will be Jamaica, the team it beat for the title in 2015, at Sports Authority Field in Denver on July 13.
