New Delhi, July 21(ANI): Reiterating the importance of better relations between India and Pakistan, Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said he conveyed concerns about the non-inclusion of the “key” Kashmir issue in the recent talks between the two sides in Ufa to Pakistan envoy Abdul Basit today.
“There is definitely some concern that the Kashmir issue wasn’t mentioned in the joint statement. But Mr. Basit assured us that the issue was discussed during the talks held between the two governments and Prime Ministers,” Mirwaiz told reporters after meeting Basit at the ‘Eid Milan’ event at the Pakistani embassy here.
He said the Hurriyat Conference wants both the countries to have better relations and develop a trust factor but added that no process would move forward if the Kashmir issue is sidelined.
“The Hurriyat Conference principally supports the process between the two Prime Ministers and we want both the countries to have better relations and develop a trust factor,” said Mirwaiz.
“But we also feel that the Kashmir issue is the real issue. No process would be able to move forward if this issue is sidelined. We know there are many issues between India and Pakistan but the Kashmir issue remains the key issue,” he added.
