New York, Sept. 14 (ANI): Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and her Swiss partner Martina Hingis won their second successive Grand Slam title in women’s doubles event at the US Open.
The top-seeded Indo-Swiss duo eased past the fourth seeded pair of Casey Dellacqua and Yaroslava Shvedova 6-3, 6-3 in the summit contest that lasted 70 minutes at Flushing Meadows.
Mirza and Hingis now have five WTA doubles titles together since first joining forces at Indian Wells, including back-to-back Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon and US Open.
With the win, Mirza now has five Grand Slam titles – two in doubles and three in mixed doubles, while Hingis won her 20th career major title across all formats (five singles, 11 doubles and four mixed doubles).
Hingis had earlier won the US Open mixed doubles title alongside veteran Indian tennis star Leander Paes. (ANI)
