Mississauga councillors are shockingly well compensated

Mississauga city councillors have mostly been around for decades now and none plan on standing down and giving someone else the opportunity, and why should they when their incomes are so good?

In a media report recently, it was stated that all Mississauga councillors start with a base pay of $86,900 – plus about $21,000 in benefits. Given they need to drive around their wards a lot attending all kinds of events and receptions at private residences, there is a $17,500 annual car allowance.

And since all 11 Mississauga councillors automatically win a seat on Peel Region’s council too, another paycheque, about $65,000 in salary and benefits annually. Councillors are allowed to sit on other regional boards, like conservation authorities, that can boost their salaries by thousands more.

The two councillors who stood out from the pack were councillors Nando Iannicca and Sue McFadden because both earned just over $204,000 last year, including salaries and benefits. Like we said before these councillors would be mad to give up such a job. -CINEWS
