The City of Mississauga has launched a pilot project to examine the use of solar panels to heat outdoor pools.
The Lions Club of Credit Valley is home to the city’s first outdoor pool to be heated by solar panels with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
City staff will monitor the panels’ performance and collect information to prepare for future solar panel installations at other indoor and outdoor pools. The installation took a month, and the city anticipates a reduction of 10.7 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.
If this pilot project is a success, solar panels could well end up being fixtures at all community centres and public buildings. -CINEWS
