Mississauga man arrested in human trafficking investigation

traffickingA 34-year-old male resident of Mississauga has been arrested in relation to a Human Trafficking Investigation that occurred in the city.

The 24 year-old female victim met the suspect in early March 2015, and was then lured into the sex trade industry. It is alleged that the suspect profited from the victim’s acts, and that he exercised control over all aspects of the victim’s life.

Investigators from the Major Drugs and Vice Bureau of the Peel Regional Police said that on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the suspect Lowell Somerville of Mississauga  was arrested by the Ontario Provincial Police near the town of Midland, Ontario. The suspect appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice, Brampton, on Friday, May 20, 2016, for a bail Hearing for the following charges:

  • Human Trafficking;
  • Exercise Control;
  • Receiving Material Benefit x 2;
  • Advertise for Sexual Services;
  • Administer Noxious Substance;
  • Uttering Threats;
  • Sex Assault with a weapon x2.

Police are concerned there may be additional victims of Human Trafficking associated to this party.
