New York, Sep 25 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Guyana President David Granger and later met Michael Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York City.
“Connecting with an important partner in Latin America. PM @narendramodi meets Prez David Arthur Granger of Guyana,” tweeted external affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup on Friday.
Granger also presented Modi with copies of two monographs written by him, including on titled ‘Caribbean Geopolitics’.
This is Modi’s first meeting with President Granger, who took over in May this year.
Granger, a former army brigadier, came to power after his multiracial opposition coalition APNU+AFC coalition defeated the ruling Indo-Guyanese PPP party, ending its 23 year grip on power.
Modi had met with the previous Guyanese president Donald Ramotar during the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas in Gujarat earlier this year. Ramotar was the chief guest of the event.
Later, Modi met Bloomberg.
“A man with many hats says hello. Former Mayor of NYC, entrepreneur, philanthropist @MikeBloomberg calls on the PM,” tweeted the MEA spokesperson.
Bloomberg had met Modi in May this year when he visited New Delhi as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Cities and Climate Change to promote sustainable development and international investments in the renewable energy sector.
Bloomberg owns the news and financial information and media company that bear his name.
