New Delhi, Sep 10 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that Somnath can be developed as an ancient heritage pilgrimage and a tourist destination as he attended a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Somnath Trust at his residence here.
Modi also suggested excavations of areas to establish various missing historic links, and that high-tech marine attractions and virtual reality shows should be covered in the future plan.
He also suggested to bring maximum areas under CCTV surveillance network.
The Prime Minister stressed the need to develop Somnath as an ancient heritage pilgrimage as well as a tourist destination.
The Trust reviewed the progress of various projects of Somnath and stressed the need for an all-round development of the site as number of visitors was growing.
The Somnath Trust has also decided to deposit about six kilograms of gold under Gold Monetisation Scheme.
As the Trust Chairman Keshubhai Patel could not attend the meeting on health grounds, senior BJP leader L.K. Advani president over the meeting.
Apart from Modi, all other trustees Harshavardhan Neotia, P. K. Laheri J. D. Parmar and Amit Shah were present.
