New Delhi, April, 28 (CINEWS): Suhshma Swaraj is the star performer among BJP MPs on social media, according to tests by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through his party’s cyber cell.
Facebook and Twitter accounts of MPs were studied and the cyber cell issued a six-page report about the result. Individual tweets and their responses along with Facebook likes and comments also came under scrutiny.
A major focus was on whether the MPs were talking about the schemes of the government.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj lead the BJP pack with more than 5 million followers on Twitter. Nitin Gadkari, another heavyweight minister in charge of transport has 850,000 Twitter followers. Following close behind were V. K Singh, Kalraj Mishra, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Dr Mahesh Sharma.
Modi’s analysis also found that important Ministers like Maneka Gandhi, Santosh Gangwar, Sanjeev Balyan, Niranjan Jyoti, Dr Ram Shankar Katheria, Nihalchand, Haribhai Chaudhary and Hansraj Ahir were inert as far as social media was concerned.
What concerned Modi and the cyber cell was the performance of BJP MPs from UP, BJP president Keshav Prasad Maurya, where the party has a tough fight in the forthcoming assembly election. In Modi’s home state of Gujarat alone, only 11 of the 26 MPs had some presence of Facebook and Twitter.
BJP’s digital cell report also highlighted the fact that most of the MPs did not highlight ‘government’s achievements’ online.
Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Dr. Jitendra Singh was quoted as saying that under Prime Minister Modi, we have great initiatives like Jan Dhan, Beti Bachao , Ganga Cleanup, Crop Insurance etc and it was necessary that party MPs highlight these achievements to as many people as possible. Prime Minister Modi himself has about 20 million followers on Twitter.
