Modi’s Pak visit symptomatic of ‘climate change’: BJP

New Delhi, Dec. 26 (ANI): Hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Lahore to meet his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday said it was an effective example of “climate change”.

“Even the personal equation between the two Prime Ministers is symptomatic of the diplomatic thaw, which is taken place,” said M.J. Akbar BJP, the national spokesperson of the BJP and a Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand.

Stating that the BJP extends congratulations to the Pakistan Prime Minister for his vision and his leadership in the pursuit of peace, he added: “We all know that the search for peace doesn’t mean that we already found it, but the process – particularly in a region which has many complex issues and complex problems, where the pursuit of peace always a “fragile commodity” – requires the kind of courage shown at Lahore.”

Heaping praises over Prime Minister Modi, Akbar said, “He is, in fact, a master of the transformative moment, we have seen it in the manner in which his invitation to the SAARC leaders in 2014.”

“The subsequent events, in fact, indicated the difficulties, but it is a remarkable fact, and perhaps unprecedented, that this peace process has been revived, and the manner in which the Prime Minister has revived it is quite extraordinary,” he said.

“This gives us all hopes that there will be one happy consequence. And, if all goes well, the Prime Minister will undertake the visit to SAARC Summit next year,” said Akbar, adding that the extraordinary public response to this development and to the Lahore visit tell the same story.

On his way back to New Delhi from Moscow on Friday, Prime ministers Modi and Sharif met at the latter’s residence Raiwind Palace, the ancestral home of the Sharifs, in Lahore, where he also discussed Indo-Pak relations with him.

The relations between India and Pakistan have witnessed some positive developments in recent past. The two countries recently decided to launch a comprehensive dialogue after Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif met in Paris. (ANI)
