Pulimurugan starring Super Star Mohanlal has been getting great response all over. Most of the shows are houseful and the makers are planning to release the movie in more theatres after the initial response.
Pulimurugan was released in 216 centres in Kerala. The movie is expected to break the opening day collection records in Mollywood. Mammootty starrer Kasaba holds the record for the opening day collections grossing 2.48 crores from the first day of its release.
Interestingly Kasaba was released in around 120 screens in Kerala. Now that Pulimurugan has had a record release in more than double the screens of Kasaba, there is every chance of Pulimurugan marking a new record. Trade pundits report that Pulimurugan will have a great run at the box office thanks to Mohanlal’s massive fan base.
Pulimurugan has been getting rave reviews from both the audience and the critics.
Going by reports Pulimurugan will be another industrial hit from Mohanlal whose Onam release Oppam is also doing great business in the box office. Mohanlal’s Telugu debut Janatha Garage that released earlier this year was the fastest 100 crore movie in Tollywood.
With back to back super hits, Mohanlal is having a dream run at the box office. With no big releases slated to release this year Mohanlal is undoubtedly the box office winner of 2016.
Even though both the superstars’ movies have opened to positive response from the audience, it is Mohanlal’s action thriller Pulimurugan, which has emerged as the winner among the releases.
The Vysakh directorial, which enthralls the audience and fans of Mohanlal with never-seen-before action sequences, the last one a breadth taking 20-minute long, has made a good collection on the opening day at the Kerala box office leaving the Mammootty-starrer behind.
According to trade analysts, Pulimurugan has made a gross collection of Rs 14.97 lakh from 47 shows at the multiplexes in Kochi alone on the first day of its release.
With an overall 98.71 percent theatre occupancy on day one, the action thriller has now become the sixth highest opening day grosser at the multiplexes following the records of Rajinikanth’s Kabali, Dulquer Salmaan’s Charlie, Salman Khan’s Sultan, Nivin Pauly’s Action Hero Biju and Dulquer’s Kali.
Meanwhile, Thoppil Joppan, which only had 26 shows on the first day of its run at the multiplexes in Kochi, has earned a collection of Rs. 7 lakh with just 76 percent theatre occupancy.
While Pulimurugan opened to 36 housefull shows in PVR Cinemas, Cinepolis, Cinemax, Pan Cinemas,Q Cinemas and Cinepolis VIP, the Johny Antony directorial Thoppil Joppan had only eight full packed shows at the Kochi multiplexes.
Meanwhile, the Mohanlal-starrer also made a collection of Rs 8.19 lakh (10 shows) from Aries Plex, Rs 8.42 lakh (27 shows) from Carnival Cinemas and Rs 5.81 lakh (15 shows) from Aashirwad Cineplex in the state. – CINEWS
