Mohenjo Daro may have become the sixth highest opener of 2016 but the Hrithik Roshan film is still being described as below par in box office. Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, the period drama opened to largely unfavourable reviews on August 12.
Starring Hrithik and Pooja Hegde, Mohenjo Daro’s Friday box office collections stood at a disappointing at Rs 8.87 crore.
Saturday saw a marginal increase (Rs 9.6 crore) and the film appeared to be rallying on Sunday with Rs 10.36 crore earning at BO. However, Monday — which was a holiday on the account of Independence Day — saw a dip with the film earning Rs 10.36 crore.
With Rs 40.9 crore in the first weekend collections, Hrithik comeback is way behind Akshay Kumar’s Rustom which was also released on August 12 and earned Rs 68.23 crore at the box office.
Why Mohenjo Daro is being described as a disappointment is its big budget. It was made at a cost of Rs 100 crore with Rs 15 crore spent in promotions. – CINEWS
