A googly by a film industry lobby has made things difficult for the Marathi version of MS Dhoni: The Untold Story in Maharashtra.
Director Neeraj Pandey wanted to release the movie in multiple languages with an aim to cash in on the popularity of cricketer MS Dhoni in the whole country.
However, Chitrapat Karmachari Sena (CKS), the film affairs wing of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, has reportedly objected to the move saying that any such release would affect the regional films market. The move will also result in unfair competition for regional films, it has said.
A source has said that the move will see more filmmakers releasing Hindi movies dubbed in Marathi will affect the regional films market.
Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey’s upcoming biopic MS Dhoni – The Untold Story, which was set to be dubbed in Marathi, earlier said that he is excited with the local release as the regional language film industry is booming.
The film, which is based on Indian cricket skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, has already been dubbed in Tamil and Telugu. This would be the first time a Hindi biopic is getting a Marathi release.
“The love for MS Dhoni in this country is unparalleled. Through this film, our effort is to show his life, his journey, his struggle… The regional language film industry is booming and the set of audiences seeing local language content is fairly different than those watching Hindi cinema,” Pandey said in a statement. – CINEWS
