Mumbai Congress condemns Pathankot attack

Mumbai, Jan 2 (IANS) The Mumbai Congress on Saturday condemned the terror attack on an IAF base in Punjab’s Pathankot town, and cancelled a scheduled programme to felicitate a newly elected legislative council member here.

Converting the function into a memorial meeting, the gathering observed a two-minute silence as a tribute to the two Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel killed in the pre-dawn terror attack. Four others suffered injuries in the attack.

Before getting killed, the IAF personnel gunned down four of the terrorists who had sneaked into the airport and created mayhem.

“Mumbai Congress strongly condemns the terror attacks and pays homage to to the martyred soldiers. We appeal to government to take strongest steps to view the issue seriously and ensure security in the country,” Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam said.

The function had been organised to felicitate newly elected Congress MLC Bhai Jagtap.

Criticising the attacks, senior Congress legislator Sanjay Dutt said: “Can terror and talks go together? The prime minister owes an explanation to the nation.”
