Murshidabad (West Bengal), Feb. 9 (ANI): Corporal punishment has yet raised its ugly face, claiming the life of a Class 6 student of Al Amin Madrasa, Samim Mullick, at Baruan in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.
The Murshidabad Police have arrested the school teacher, Hanif Sheikh, who had allegedly beaten up the boy, and Litan Sheikh, the owner of the Al Amin Abasik Mission hostel building, in this connection.
The incident came to light when the parents of the victim, who live in a nearby village, were informed by the hostel authorities that their son had fallen ill and they should visit him immediately.
“When we reach the school, we found our son dead,” said Julham Sheikh, the victim’s father.
The angry parents, along with the residents of nearby locality, staged a protest at the hostel gate.
Julham Sheikh said his son, who was residing in the hostel, wanted to meet them since long, but the hostel authorities did not allow him.
“On Monday, he came to meet us at the hostel gate, but didn’t step out of the hostel,” said Julham, adding that he soon returned to his hostel.
However, the teacher beat him up mercilessly for breaching the hostel rules and he succumbed to his injuries, alleged the victim’s father.
The parents of the victim, later, lodged a complaint with the Baruan police, who arrested Hanif Sheikh and Litan Sheikh, and booked them under Sections 302 (Punishment for murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
The duo was produced before a local court, which sent them on a police remand for two days.
Further investigations are going on, said police. (ANI)
