Dhaka (Bangladesh), June 21 (ANI): Rookie fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman claimed career-best figures of six for 43 as he helped Bangladesh clinch three-match ODI series 2-0 after defeating India by six wickets (D/L method) in the second one-day international at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday.
Opting to bat first, India suffered an early blow as opener Rohit Sharma (0) was dismissed by Mustafizur in the second ball of the innings.
Although Virat Kohli (23) and Shikhar Dhawan tried to stabilize the innings by building a brisk 74-run partnership for the second wicket, spinner Nasir Hossain quickly removed both of them to set up the stage for the hosts.
Dhawan scored 53 while captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni made 47 before he fell prey to Mustafizur’s delivery.
Suresh Raina (34) and Ravindra Jadeja (19) were the other notable mentions who were dismissed by Mustafizur.
While Mustafizur replicated his debut heroics, Rubel Hossain and Nasir claimed two wickets each to expose frailties of India’s much-vaunted batting line-up.
The tourists were reeling at 196-8 when rain had interrupted play. However, they could only add four more runs to their total after rain had reduced the game to a 47-overs-per-side affair.
Chasing a paltry total of 200, Bangladesh sealed the win in the 38th over, thanks to Shakib Al Hasan’s brilliant 51 not out and couple of 30’s from other batsmen.
While Soumya Sarkar (34), Litton Das (36), and Mushfiqur Rahim (31) made valuable contribution to their side, Sabbir Rahman remained unbeaten on 22 to steer his side to the landmark victory.
Bangladesh secured their first ever ODI series win against India and will play the third and the final ODI on Wednesday. (ANI)
