Johannesburg, Jan.20 (ANI): World number five Rafael Nadal has vowed to compete much better next time following his early exit from the first major of the season, Australian Open.
Nadal suffered a major blow as he was knocked out in the opening round of the Australian Open at the hands of Fernando Verdasco 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 2-6.
Reflecting on his defeat, the 28-year-old said that it was a really tough match, but insisted that he did everything to claim victory,Sport24 reported.
Describing the Australian Open as `very important`, Nadal said that he had been practicing a lot for this tournament and that it was quite disappointing to lose it.
The 14-time Grand Slam champion further admitted that the game of tennis had become a bit more challenging and crazy as everyone try harder to win the matches.
He, however, added that his real mission was to make his rivals play with difficult positions in the game , so that the chance of their success would be less.
Nadal will now head into his favourite Grand Slam French Open at Roland Garros, where he is a nine-time champion, in late May.(ANI)
