New Delhi, The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Tuesday cried foul over the arrest of its leader Chhagan Bhujbal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and alleged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of practicing vendetta politics.
Asserting that they trust the judicial system of the country, Senior NCP leader D.P. Tripathi expressed hope that Bhujbal would emerge clean from all the allegations.
“All this is being done with the aim of taking revenge. Chhagan Bhujbal is innocent and we know it. We knew that this government would undertake such negative actions. We trust in the judiciary, and we are confident that he will emerge innocent,” Tripathi told ANI.
Bhujbal was on Monday arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the scam.
The former deputy chief minister was interrogated for more than nine hours today by a team of ED officials. He will be produced before a court today.
The ED had summoned Bhujbal on March 8 following a complaint by Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) MP Kirit Somaiya in connection with cases lodged under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and Foreign Exchange Management Act pertaining to alleged irregularities in the construction of a new Maharashtra Sadan in New Delhi, worth several hundred crores of rupees.
The ED had on February 1 arrested Bhujbal’s nephew Sameer Bhujbal. Later last month, it questioned Bhujbal’s son Pankaj Bhujbal, a legislator. (ANI)
