NDA’s ‘casual approach’ led to failure in dealing with Pak: Congress

New Delhi, Dec.12 (ANI): The Congress Party on Saturday said the ‘casual approach’ adopted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi led-Government towards Pakistan has resulted in failure of every attempt made by the Centre in the last one and a half years.

“We always wanted a structured discussion between India and Pakistan. The kind of discussion initiated by the Prime Minister, and subsequently by casual way of approaching the issue without applying mind properly and also evolving a policy towards Pakistan,” P.C. Chacko told ANI.

“That is why in the last one and a half years, every attempt made by the Modi Government has miserably failed. More than that, Pakistan’ policies are controlled by the Pakistan army,” he added.

He asserted that Pakistan’s policies are being guided by the extremist military agenda, and therefore, India needs to be extremely cautious.

Another Congress leader, P.L. Punia stressed that the issue of terrorism must be taken on priority at the foreign secretary level talks between the two countries going to be held next month.

“We welcome the foreign secretary level talks between the two countries. We have always been in favour of dialogue. Our emphasis is we must first take up the issue of terrorism. During the UPA and even during the current NDA regimes, different dossiers about terrorists, about the involvement of Pakistani officers, ISI officers in the terror attack of 26/11, have already been handed over to them,” Punia told ANI.

“We must first ascertain what actions they propose to take and what actions have been done. So, we must first of all prioritise our issues and take up the terror issue on the first priority,” he added. (ANI)
