NIA court refuses bail to six IS suspects

New Delhi, July 8 (IANS) A special NIA court on Friday refused bail plea of six Islamic State (IS) suspects who were arrested for allegedly plotting a terror strike during the Ardh Kumbh Mela at Uttarakhand’s Haridwar this year.

District Judge Amar Nath rejected the bail of Akhlakur Rehman, Mohd Osama, Mohd Mehraz, Mohd Azeemushan, Mohsin Ibrahim Sayyed and one more accused and extended their judicial custody till July 18, according to sources.

As per sources, during in-camera proceedings, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) told the court that period of investigation has been extended by the court as advocate M.S. Khan, appearing for the six accused, moved their bail plea saying that probe agency has failed to file chargesheet within the specified period.

The NIA has alleged that during their interrogation by Delhi Police, the six had disclosed name, codes and mobile numbers of active members, recruiters, sympathisers and motivators of the IS involved in furtherance of activities of its ideologies using Internet-based communication, Facebook, Skype, telephones, telegram and other means, and luring youths to join the terror organisation.

They were conspiring to target the Ardh Kumbh Mela at Haridwar besides some strategic locations in Delhi, the NIA had alleged.

The agency had added that they were found to have links with a former Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist who later went to fight for the IS.
