Nimrat Kaur finds the term ‘shelf life’ amusing when commonly misused in the context of female actors. Says the 34-year-old, “The phrase should be used only for canned goods, and nothing else. They have an expiry date.”
The Lunchbox actor, speaking to us over the phone from Canada where she is shooting for the second season of M Night Shyamalan’s Wayward Pines, adds that the age of an actor no longer matters.
“Every stage in your life can be played as a story. You can’t restrict an actor and say that you can only play a character which falls in a certain age bracket. As an actor you can play any role, represent any stage in life, without being told that you look too old or too young for the part.”
“When actors have already lived that stage in their life, they can use their own experience to make their onscreen character more interesting. You can’t say that one stops being an actor after they go beyond a certain age. They still remain stars.”
