No action plan till Delhi Govt. comes up with policy: Bassi on odd-even formula

New Delhi, Dec. 12 (ANI): Dismissing reports that they might seek changes in the Motor Vehicle Act to implement the odd-even formula in the national capital post January 1, the Delhi Police on Saturday said that they would make their action plan in this matter only after the state government announces its policy on December 25.

Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi told media persons that any step taken by them would be in the interest of the people of Delhi.

“Based on the meeting that we have attended, I can tell you that the issue is open, the final decision in this regard will be taken by the government on December 25. I do not want to speculate on it before December 25,” Bassi said.

“We will wait for the government to come out with the policy on December 25. After that we will make our action plan, if we need any clarification we will think about it then. Let them come up with policy then we will come out with action plan. Whatever we do, we will keep the interest of the people in mind,” he added.

Earlier, reports had surfaced stating that Delhi Police was seeking amendments in the existing Motor Vehicle Act to implement the odd-even formula in Delhi which will be implemented on a trial basis from January 1 -15, 2016.

Last Friday, the Delhi Government had announced a slew of measures to bring down pollution levels in the national capital.

According to the announcement, vehicles with odd and even number plates will be driven on alternate days. (ANI)
