New Delhi, Feb.25 (ANI): “Late actor Shammi Kapoor was a fascinating man. He was one of his kinds,” said journalist and film critic Rauf Ahmed.

The author was talking in context of Kapoor’s only authorised biography ‘Shammi Kapoor: The Game Changer’, launched by Om Books International.

Writing a book on a personality like Shammi Kapoor could have been a challenging task. But the author rubbishes it all by saying that there was no pressure while writing the book.

“Through this book, I wanted to put his entire career and how he was as a person in perspective,” added Ahmed.

“Shammi Kapoor’s love for music was a major turning point for him. He was very talented but worked as a performer rather than just an actor. Nobody could dance like him,” said the author.

However, it was difficult to miss the uncanny resemblance between Shammi Kapoor and Elvis Presley. “He started gaining popularity with Elvis Presley but he had just seen 2-3 videos of him.

The book also carries quotes from legendary actress Sharmila Tagore.

“I can look back and say that there has been nobody like Shammi Kapoor. His sense of music, his sense of rhythm, his comic timing and his unique performing style were just amazing. They made him stand apart. He was an original. Whatever he had done decades ago, the youngsters are doing now,” said Sharmila.

“He taught me the importance of insisting on the best facilities for work. When I had begun, I had a business-like approach to work. I would reach the studio at the appointed time, do the make-up, wear what they had chosen for me, face the camera, and speak the lines given to me and, after pack-up, drive back home. It was the right thing to do. But being right need not necessarily be always wise. Shammi told me I should take an interest in every aspect of my work and, even if I had to make a fuss, I should ensure that I get the best and, in return, give of my best. I never forgot that” she added.
