North Eastern Council gets two new members

New Delhi, July 1 (IANS) Retired IAS officer Chandra Kanta Das and academician Gangmumei Kamei have been appointed members of the North Eastern Council (NEC), the nodal agency for economic and social development of eight north eastern states.

The appointments were made for a period of three years and Das and Kamei will function as full time non-official members from the NEC headquarters in Shillong.

They will fill in the vacancies that arose following the resignations of Ashoke K. Dutta and M.P. Bezbaruah.

Das has served in many capacities, including the Assam chief minister’s adviser, while Kamei was a professor of history in Manipur University.

Development Of North Eastern Region Minister Jitendra Singh said a senior IAS officer would soon be appointed as secretary of the NEC. The post fell vacant after Ameising Luikham was made union secretary of public enterprises department.
