NY women wants no taxation over tampons

Washington D.C., March 4. (ANI): According to a group of women, it is time to sue New York State for imposing sales tax on tampons.

Five women have filed a class action lawsuit against the Empire State for not giving tampons the same preferential treatment that male medical products get, reports TMZ.com.

For instance, male products like Rogaine, condoms and foot powder are exempt from the standard 4 percent sales tax in New York.

According to the Department of Taxation and Finance, tampons are used to “control a normal bodily function and to maintain personal cleanliness,” hence tax should be imposed.

But the complainant argued that tampons are not luxury items, rather are medical necessities to avoid infection and other nasty circumstances, hence tax should be lifted. (ANI)
