Washington D.C., Dec. 13 (ANI): US President Barack Obama has hailed the international climate change agreement in Paris, calling it the “best chance” to save the planet.
According to CNN, Obama said, speaking at the White House that they had come together around a strong agreement that the world needs.
The accord sets a goal of limiting average warming to 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial temperatures and of striving for a limit of 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) if possible.
Senior administration officials have described the Paris deal as a “hybrid agreement” where parts of the agreement, such as the transparency of countries sharing their carbon emissions, would be legally binding.
Obama also said that Saturday’s agreement is the first of many. (ANI)
