New Delhi, Aug 16 (IANS) Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday condoled the demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and described him as “one of the tallest leaders of the country”.

“I am deeply grieved by the sad demise of Vajpayeeji. India has lost one of its tallest leaders. He was loved by the people of India and more so by the people in Odisha as well,” said the Chief Minister.

Patnaik paid his last respects to the late leader at the AIIMS, here.

Vajpayee passed away on Thursday at AIIMS following a prolonged illness.

“It is a great national loss today as much as a personal loss for me. I will always cherish my association with Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayeeji especially as it was during my initial years in politics,” said the Chief Minister.
