One Indian dead in Haj stampede

Hyderabad, Sept. 24 (ANI): Hyderabad resident, Karimullah, on Thursday claimed that his aunt had died in the stampede during Haj pilgrimage, which has so far left over 700 people dead.

“I got a call informing that my aunt Bibijan was killed in the stampede in Mecca,” Karimullah told ANI.

There unconfirmed reports that three Indians have died in the incident. A formal confirmation in this regard is awaited.

MEA official spokesperson Vikas Swarup had earlier said in his tweet that there are no reports of any Indian causality in the tragic incident.

The stampede occurred during the devil-stoning ritual where pilgrims throw pebbles at three walls in Mina.

Today was the last day of the pilgrimage and it has traditionally been the most dangerous day of Hajj because vast numbers of pilgrims attempt to perform rituals at the same time in a single location. (ANI)
