If you have a red-and-white health card, it’s time to get it changed. The Ontario government has set July 1 as the date they will no longer be accepted.
The reason—they’re more prone to fraud and the province has been working on eliminating them for years. Currently about 300,000 red-and-white health cards remain in circulation.
The move comes more than 25 years after the province first announced those cards would be phased out.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says these cards are more susceptible to fraud than the newer cards, which feature a photo and a signature. She said that people who still have the old health cards will get notices this month, and monthly reminders thereafter to get a new card. -CINEWS
