Pathankot, Jan. 3 (ANI): The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Sunday confirmed that the operation to flush out the terrorists from the Air Force Station in Pathankot was still underway, adding that a total of seven security personnel have been martyred so far.
Air Commodore J.S. Dhamoon, Air Officer Commanding of Pathankot Air Force Station, said that they had enhanced security at the base immediately after receiving information from the intelligence agencies.
“On the morning of January 1, we received intelligence input that there are a few terrorists who are heading towards Air Force Station Pathankot,” he said.
“Immediately all the security measures at the base were enhanced, counter measures were initiated, coordination was done with the Indian Army and the NSG, Punjab Police and other intelligence agencies,” he added.
He said soon after the operation was launched, Garud Commandos managed to engage one group of terrorists in a gun battle.
“During the search operations late in the midnight, one group was engaged by the Garuds at the Air Force station. During the engagement, one Garud was martyred and one was injured,” he said.
“The terrorists, who were estimated to be four in number, were cordoned off and they managed to run away from there and headed towards other buildings. They kept firing indiscriminately while running and took refuge in a mess,” he added.
Air Commodore Dhamoon said that one of the jawans at the station even jostled with one of the terrorists and killed him.
“One of the jawans ran after them, jostled with them and killed one of the terrorists… there after the jawan was killed,” he said.
“The operations continued thereafter throughout the night and the morning. Eventually these three were neutralised in the late afternoon. Today morning, once again, two were engaged, and this operation is at its completion stage,” he added.
