It is still not known whether the Pakistani censors have approved Happy Bhag Jayegi for public viewing in Pakistan. While the film has not yet been slapped with an official ban, the decision lies with the provincial censor boards.
The latest reports say the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) of Pakistan could not reach a unanimous decision over the fate of the film due to technical differences between the board members. As per the regular proceedings of the board, a full-board was called to review the film.
“The full board had approved the film for public viewing with a 8-1 ratio in favour of the film,” said a Pakistan Censor Board official.
“Under the Motion Pictures Ordinance of 1979 and Censorship of Film Rules act of 1980, the ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage has the right to review the board’s decision,” he explained.
Happy Bhag Jayegi tells a story of a girl who plans to run away from her wedding and during that course she crosses the borders and reaches the neighbouring country, Pakistan.
The movie, starring Abhay Deol, Diana Penty, Ali Fazal and Jimmy Shergill, also marks Pakistani actor Momal Sheikh’s Bollywood debut. – CINEWS
