Pakistan junior girls’ team leaves for Asian netball meet

Islamabad, Dec 12 (IANS) Pakistan’s junior girls team on Saturday left for Hong Kong to feature in the 9th Asian Netball Championship starting on Monday, officials said.

Captain Anum Salam along with vice-captain Kashia Asif will lead the 10-member team in the event. Shazia Yousaf will be the coach and Muhammad Rizwan will officiate as manager, Pakistan Netball Federation (PNF) president Mudaessar Arain said.

A total of 12 teams, including Singapore, Sri Lanka, Maldives, India, Pakistan, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.), Malaysia, Brunei and Hong Kong, will take part in the mega event that concludes on December 20.

Singapore are the defending champions. Pakistan will play their first match against Hong Kong on Monday, followed by a second game against Thailand on Wednesday.

Arain expressed the hope that the team would get positive results as it was fully prepared for the event.
