Karachi, March.4 (ANI): Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has constituted a special committee in a bid to examine Pakistan’s disappointing display in the ongoing Asia Cup T20 and will also keep a close eye on the national side’s performance in the upcoming World T20 in India.
Veteran batsman Younis Khan and Test skipper Misbah-ul-haq have been named in the committee, which will be empowered to summon any player involved with the team.
Besides them, Shakil Sheikh (Chairman Cricket Committee), Subhan Ahmad (Chief Operating Officer) and Iqbal Qasim (Member) will work towards the improvement of the selection process in the national side, the Dawn reported.
The PCB pointed that the committee would focus on the selection criteria, the coaching preparation as well as the team performance.
The development came after PCB chief Shaharyar Khan had slammed his side’s ‘painful’ performance after they were knocked out of the Asia Cup.
Pakistan were dumped out of the tournament after suffering a humiliating five-wicket defeat at the hands of hosts Bangladesh on Wednesday. The Shahid Afridi-led side also suffered a defeat against fierce rivals India in their opening match.
Shaharyar had insisted that everyone who was involved in the selection process would be held accountable for his side’s disappointing display.
He also hinted the possibilities of making last minute changes in the World T20 squad.
The ICC World T20 is slated to be held from March 8, with Pakistan likely to play their opening match against the hosts in Dharamsala if they get clearance from the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh about the appropriate security to their players. (ANI)
