PCB rejects Azhar’s resignation over Amir’s inclusion row

Karachi, Dec.29 (ANI): PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan has rejected the resignation plea of ODI skipper Azhar Ali after he and veteran Mohammad Hafeez refused to train with disgraced fast bowler Mohammad Amir.

Azhar and Hafeez later agreed to return to the camp following a meeting with the PCB chairman.

“Azhar Ali met the chairman PCB .He tendered his resignation. The chairman didn’t accept his resignation, Azhar Ali agreed and he will continue as captain,” the PCB was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Earlier, Amir was included in the 26-member national fitness camp in Lahore for the upcoming limited-over series against New Zealand, which can pave the way for his return to the national squad.

Amir displayed impressive form in domestic matches as well as in the Bangladesh Premier League after ending his five-year ban for spot-fixing three months ago.

Considered as one of the most promising talents, Amir had taken 51 wickets in 14 Tests and 25 in 15 one-day internationals before he was handed a five-year ban for bowling deliberate no-balls by pre-arrangement during the fourth test against England at Lord’s in 2010. (ANI)
