Raipur, July 5 (ANI): The Congress workers staged a protest here on Sunday against Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh over alleged irregularities in the supply of rice in the state’s Public Distribution System (PDS).
The protestors shouted slogans denouncing Raman Singh and carried placards demanding his resignation. They also burnt an effigy of the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister.
“Even after a scam of several crores, the Chief Minister is shamelessly holding on to his position. We have burnt the effigy and the Chief Minister today and we demand an SIT probe into the matter,” said Dhananjay Singh, one of the protestors.
The PDS scam came to light when the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) raided 36 offices of state civil supplies corporation leading to the recovery of Rs. 3.64 crore and several incriminating documents.
According to reports, the Congress has alleged that the mill owners and PDS shop owners joined hands to provide sub-standard rice to poor families, thereby, swindling money from the state exchequer. (ANI)
