Pedestrian injured in Oakville road crash passes away

haltonpolice4 The pedestrian involved in a collision on Marine Drive on Sunday in Oakville, has died as a result of her injuries. Mrs. Mary Murray, who was 86 years old was crossing midblock on Marine Drive in a southerly direction when she was struck by an eastbound sports utility vehicle driven by a 66-year-old male driver.  She died on Tuesday.

Both the pedestrian and the driver were residents of the Town of Oakville.  Mrs. Murray  was dragged under the vehicle for a short distance before the vehicle came to a stop. She was transported to Hamilton General Hospital with life threatening injuries.  The driver of the SUV was not injured in the collision.

Due to the seriousness of the injuries, the Collision Reconstruction Unit attended the scene and took carriage of the investigation.  Marine Drive was closed in both directions for approximately 3 1/2 hours for the collision investigation.

Halton Regional Police Service is still   investigating the collision and  no charges have been laid. Speed and alcohol are not considered to be contributing factor in the collision.

This is the ninth fatality caused by a motor vehicle collision investigated by Halton Regional Police this year.  Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-825-4747 extension 5065. – CINEWS
