Peel residents can drop off old recycling bins for free until August 6

old-binsOld and unwanted recycling bins can be dropped off for free at Mississauga’s Iceland Arena Saturday, August 6.

Old green bins, blue boxes, grey boxes or plastic resin containers no longer being used by residents, after implementation of the new cart-based garbage collection system, can be dropped off at the arena, 705 Matheson Blvd. E., from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Region of Peel said it does not pick up the unwanted containers at the curb.

Curbside collection would cost about $3.5 million and the price tag for the drop off events is an estimated $350,000, according to waste department figures.

To get rid of the old container, residents can either attend one of the two drop-off events in their city or drive to a Community Recycling Centre.

However, according to regional officials, residents who have challenges getting to a drop off event or recycling centre can request container pickup by regional staff.

They can email the request, with their address, to zzg-wasteinquiry@peelregion.ca or phone 905-791-9499 to coordinate a pickup. – CINEWS
