Shoebite, the first collaboration between filmmaker Shoojit Sircar and mega Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan never saw the light of day but now Sirdar says he has done something to make up for the loss by way of his new thought-provoking social drama Pink.
Sircar also made Piku, starring Bachchan as a hypochondriac father, which became a box office success. The film also earned Big B his fourth National Award. The film which was made in 2015 also included Deepika Padukone, Irrfan Khan, Moushumi Chatterjee and Jishu Sengupta in the cast.
Pink is the third collaboration between the two veterans where 73-year-old Bachchan plays the role of a senior lawyer appearing in a gruesome sexual harassment trial.
“That shoe is still biting,” Bachchan said when asked about their unreleased Shoebite at the trailer launch of Pink.
“One does feel bad and sad if a film doesn’t get released. But we have moved on. We are still trying if something can happen,” Shoojit said. “But Piku and Pink are my repay to Mr Bachchan,” he added.
Shoebite also featured Dia Mirza, Jimmy Sheirgill and Sarika. The film was caught in a legal battle between Percept Picture Company and UTV Motion Pictures. – CINEWS
